Claire, Melody, Alexi and myself went to Nivelles to say hello to Sascha and Noa from Geneva who have come over for a couple of weeks. Ruth (my sis) and Robin and family will visit Alison soon. Christianity Mag has done a top ten of the "most redeeming films" of 2009
here.
The word "redeeming" is used to describe a theme or several elements in the film which point to a redeemer figure who saves. You may not agree ;o) 1. Up - It's got talking dogs piloting fighter planes and a house that floats to South America on the strength of a thousand balloons, but the most outrageous thing about Up? It's a summer blockbuster that's head-over-heels for the joys of marriage. Here lifelong commitment isn't a burden; it's an adventure. 2. The Blind Side -The Touhys, a well-to-do white family, can't ignore the needs of a homeless African-American boy. Instead of just lending a hand, they make him family. This real-life story of NFL player Michael Oher shows a great example of Christian compassion. We can't save the world, but we can love the ones God puts in our path.3. Invictus - This is much more than just another sports movie or "another Clint Eastwood awards season movie." It's a beautiful portrait of forgiveness and a model for how reconciliation can happen in reality, and how politics can employ things like sports and poetry in the service of national renewal.4. The Road - Despite the bleak and sometimes terrifying post-apocalyptic milieu, this film—based on the book by Cormac McCarthy—stands out from other recent end-times flicks in its tenacious, audacious insistence on hope in the midst of darkness. Plus it's one of the most loving father-son relationships ever depicted on the big screen.5. The Soloist - This true tale of the unlikely relationship between a newspaper columnist and a musically gifted, mentally ill homeless man is a testament to the power of friendship. There are no easy answers here and the homeless problem among the mentally ill is clearly epidemic, but for both of these men, care and companionship are transformative.6. Where the Wild Things Are - Jonze reimagines Maurice Sendak's tale of high-spirited rebellion as a meditation on childhood insecurity in a messy world in which nothing—families, forests, even the Sun—lasts forever. Wild Things knows both a child's drowning sense of trying to hold together a broken family and the comfort of a mother's embrace, a calm center in a storm of uncertainty.7. District 9 - Using aliens and spaceships, District 9 actually gives new perspective on humans—their ugliness, racism, and greedy self-preservation. Perhaps because it shows a realistically dark world, we can see what shines. And because the main character is a complex mash-up of good and evil, his ultimate redemptive choice is powerful. 8. The Hurt Locker - A group of soldiers spend their days in combat and their nights shooting it out in video games; they see violence as macho and cool, but we see it as a deadly addiction. A lot of war movies turn our hearts to anger, but this one fills us with compassion for the people whose lives are caught in the crossfire.

Le magazine "Christianity Mag" a établi un top 10 des films les plus "rédemptifs" de 2009

Le mot "rédemptif" pour signifier que le thème du film ou plusieurs idées dans le film révèle un personnage rédemptif ou salvateur qui vient sauver. Vous ne serez peut-être pas d'accord ;o) 1. Up - L'histoire incluent des chiens qui partent vers l'Amérique du Sud portés par 1000 ballons ... mais le thème visé est l'importance du mariage et surtout l'engagement à vie! Un film d'aventure. 2. The Blind Side -Les "Touhys", une famille blanche, est bien consciente des besoins d'un garçon noir. Au lieu de juste donner un coup de main, le garçon est intégré dans leur famille. L'histoire vraie du footballeur Michael Oher est un exemple de la compassion chrétienne. Nous ne pouvons pas sauver le monde mais nous pouvons aimer ceux que Dieu met sur notre chemin. 3. Invictus - Bien plus qu'un film sportif ou une oeuvre gagnante de Clint Eastwood. C'est une illustration très belle du pardon et un modèle de réconciliation vécu dans la réalité. Un exemple du sport et de la poésie au service de la politique pour améner un renouveau national. 4. The Road - La scène post-apocalyptique du film se base sur le livre de Cormac McCarthy et comparés aux autres films apocalyptiques actuels, montre a possibilité de trouver l'espoir au milieu des ténèbres. Il y a également une relation profonde d'amour entre le père et son fils. 5. The Soloist - Une vraie histoire entre un journaliste et un sans abri mentalement handicapé qui a un don de musique. L'amitié entre les deux personnes se lient et transforme leur vies. 6. Where the Wild Things Are - Le récit de Maurice Sendak communique l'esprit de rebellion suite à un manque d'insécurité d'un enfant qui traverse la tempête de l'incertitude via une famille brisée, le reconfort d'une mère et la paix dans l'âme. 7. District 9 - Le film emploie des aliens, des vaisseaux spatiaux ... mais révèle le côté noir de l'humanité tels que le racisme, l'avarice, l'égoïsme ... Le personnage central face au choix du bon et du mauvais doit se tourner vers le côté lumineux et rejeter les ténèbres pour réaliser son rôle salvateur. 8. The Hurt Locker - Un groupe de soldats se battent pendant la journée et jouent aux jeux vidéos en soirée. Ils pensent que la violence est cool. Le film nous invite étrangement à avoir de la compassion pour ceux qui sont plus victimes de leur situation.
