I heard yesterday that Larry Norman, universally acknowledged as the founder of christian rock music, went to be with Jesus. Below is the message from Solid Rock and from Charlie, his brother.
Message from Solid Rock: Hello everybody.Our friend and my wonderful brother Larry passed away at 2:45 Sunday morning. Kristin and I were with him, holding his hands and sitting inbed with him when his heart finally slowed to a stop. We spent this pastweek laughing, singing, and praying with him, and all the while he had us taking notes on new song ideas and instructions on how to continue his ministry and art.Several of you friends here got to come and visit with him in the lastcouple of weeks and were a great source of help and friendship to Larry.Ray Sievers, Derek Robertson, Mike Makinster, Matt Simmons, and a fewmore. Thank you guys. Larry appreciated your visits very much. And hegreatly appreciated the thoughts, wishes, support and prayers that came from all of you Army members on a daily basis. Thank you for being part of his small circle of friends over the years. Yesterday afternoon he knew he was going to go home to God very soon and he dictated the following message to you while his friend Allen Fleming typed these words into Larry's computer:
From Larry: "I feel like a prize in a box of cracker jacks with God's hand reaching down to pick me up. I have been under medical care for months. My wounds are getting bigger. I have trouble breathing. I am ready to fly home.My brother Charles is right, I wont be here much longer. I cant do anything about it. My heart is too weak. I want to say goodbye to everyone. In the past you have generously supported me with prayer and finance and we will probably still need financial help. My plan is to be buried in a simple pine box with some flowers inside.But still it will be costly because of funeral arrangement,transportation to the gravesite, entombment, coordination, legal papersetc. However money is not really what I need, I want to say I love you.I'd like to push back the darkness with my bravest effort. There will be a funeral posted here on the website, in case some of you want to attend. We are not sure of the date when I will die. Goodbye, farewell,we will meet again.Goodbye, farewell, we'll meet again. Somewhere beyond the sky.I pray that you will stay with God. Goodbye, my friends, goodbye. Larry"
From Charlie: Thank you to all of you who were so nice to my brother over the years.Kristin and I will post funeral information in the next day or two. Right now we're not able to function very well, but the whole family is here... our mother Margaret, our sisters Nancy and Kristy, Mike Norman and his new wife Tiffany, and Silver.We miss him beyond words. Je viens d'apprendre que Larry Norman, le "fondateur du rock chrétien" est parti auprès de Jésus hier. Voici des nouvelles de son frère ci-dessous :
Message de Solid Rock: Salut tout le monde. Notre ami et mon frère merveilleux, Larry, est décédé le Dimanche matin à 2h45. Kristin et moi-même étions à ses cotés, tenant sa main et nous l’avons accompagné jusqu’au moment où son cœur a cessé de battre. Nous avons passé cette dernière semaine dans la prières, dans les rires, et les chants. Il n’a pas arrêté de nous dicter des consignes et des instructions sur la suite du ministère. Plusieurs de nos amis parmi vous êtes venus rendre visite à Larry, ce qui l’a beaucoup réjouit et l’a beaucoup aidé. Ray Sievers, Derek Robertson, Mike Makinster, Matt Simmons, et d’autres parmi vous. Merci les gars. Larry a beaucoup apprécié vos visites. Larry a également apprécié les pensées, le soutien, les salutations et les prières de vous tous quasi tous les jours. Merci d’avoir fait partie de son petit cercle d’amis ces années passées. Hier après-midi, Larry savait qu’il allait bientôt retourné à Dieu et il a dicté le message suivant pour vous via son ami Allen Fleming, qui a tapé le message dans l’ordi portable de Larry.
De Larry: "je me sens comme un prix dans une boîte de cracker jacks (popcorn enrobés de cacahuètes) et Dieu étend sa main pour me choisir et me ramasser. J’ai suivi des soins médicaux depuis des mois. Mes plaies ne guérissent plus. J’ai des problèmes de respiration. Je suis prêt à m’envoler chez moi. Mon frère Charles a raison. Je ne serai plus ici bas très longtemps. Je n’y peux rien. Mon cœur est trop faible. Je voudrais dire au revoir à tout le monde. Dans le passé, vous m’avez soutenu par des dons généreux et par vos prières. Nous aurons sans doute encore besoin de dons pour payer les frais. Mon projet est d’être enterré dans un cercueil en pin tout simple avec quelques fleurs à l’intérieur. Comme ça, ça va coûter un peu à cause des frais de transport, la tombe, les papiers, la coordination etc. En fait, ce n’est pas d’argent dont j’ai besoin, je désire vous dire que je vous aime. J’aimerais repousser les ténèbres de toute ma force. Nous allons donner les détails de la cérémonie sur le site internet pour ceux qui veulent assister aux funérailles mais je ne connais évidemment pas la date de ma mort. Au revoir, à Dieu, nous nous verrons un jour au-delà des cieux. Je prie que vous restiez avec Dieu. Au revoir mes amis, au revoir. Larry"
De Charlie (le frère de Larry): Merci à vous tous qui étiez si gentils avec mon frère depuis ces années passées. Kristin et moi-même vous donnerons plus de renseignements concernant les funérailles dans un jour ou deux. Pour l’instant nous ne sommes pas tout à fait dans le coup! Nous nous sommes tous réunis avec la famille . . . notre maman Margaret, nos sœurs Nancy et Kristy, Mike Norman et sa nouvelles épouse Tiffany, et Silver. Larry nous manque au-dèla de tout mot.
