The cute picture is of Melody as a baby. She often tipped over in her push-chair due to her impulsive nature ;o) Johanan's "baby photo" turn will come. Both Jo and Melo went to the Brussels studios to do their audio conversations for the belgian secondary school english manuals (as I mentioned previously). Apparently it went well, they had fun, and they are getting paid for it ;o) They also met our friend John M. There will be another day of recording in a few weeks time.
Alexi is now having physio sessions for the knee and things seem to be going well. We will be helping out at Alexi's basketball club's annual dinner tomorrow. There will be a choice of four menus : african, south american, greek and asian. Claire will be preparing the "asian cuisine" and we will both serve. There were about 250 people last year.

"Kingdom Of Comfort" (Stu G) This is more than a song; it's where we're at as a band and individuals. We don't profess to have answers to the big questions of living with the poor, the oppressed and the marginalised on our global doorstep but we are wrestling with these questions. . . and our comfortable kingdoms. It started in Brazil in 2006 while on tour, once again faced with communities that have extreme wealth and extreme poverty. I was listening to Rob Bell from Mars Hill in Grand Rapids talk about Solomon amassing great wealth and wisdom and how he was "to do justice and righteousness", but how he became the oppressor, forgot to tell the story of rescue and freedom, and in the end the nation ended up in exile. What is OUR kingdom of comfort? It's when we are comfortable and safe in our isolated environments, our religion, our "castles". When we become indifferent to the struggles of others, when we are fearful of being inclusive and diverse! It's a new sound for us. I love this song!
"God Is Smiling" (Martin Smith) This phrase came as a spontaneous song during the drop down section in the song 'History Maker'. I was talking about the things that make God smile, and also the things that don't make him smile. Injustice and poverty are two of those things and need to be addressed if we are to be called "Christians". We joined hands, God always smiles when people step outside themselves and become part of something bigger, and felt the electricity as we sang, "God is smiling over us tonight." This then became the song it is today.
"Give What You've Got" (Stu G) This started life as a slow and moody vibe but ended up rocking out on us! Martin imagined sitting down with one of his sons giving advice on living life. Whatever you do give it what you've got! My favourite line is, "I made some mistakes but the grace was so good." We can all say that I guess! I loved working on the guitar tones with our great friend Lynn Nichols - we pushed that '70s Marshall hard!
"Love Will Find A Way" (Martin Smith) A song of paradox. One minute we're feeding kids on a slum, the next we're in a 5 star hotel because that's the only sensible place to stay. This song reflects the inner monologue of someone asking all the questions and how they can engage in making a difference from the comfort of our own lives. My favourite set of lyrics are in the middle eight.
"Eagle Rider" (Martin Smith) Inspired by watching the low budget film from New Zealand, Whale Rider, a great image of something or someone taking you further, going deeper. A strange phrase really but Eagle Rider stuck and became a story of flying up through the winds and soaring so high you can almost see into Heaven. A song about change, shift, repositioning and freedom. A song about rediscovery, of risk and of adventure. A great groove, something new for us.
"We Give You Praise" (Martin Smith) A friend of ours, Marty Sampson from Sydney, sent me an idea with the first line of the chorus. The verses didn't grab me but the chorus idea did. We shaped it into this powerful ballad about walking on the road of life and not giving up. Also we blame the Devil for a lot of our troubles, but most of my trouble come from me, my flesh, the old man. We have been saved from ourselves - that's the most amazing thing. Left to my own devices I would perish.
How Sweet The Name" (Martin Smith) Almost hymn like, a simple love song, the sound, the name, they woo me every day. The musical ending is the perfect juxtaposition to the serenity. Life is simple, but also complicated and we didn't want this song to be an easy ride for people! "So many songs I've sung, but there's none more beautiful than you." That's it right there!
"Wonder" (Martin Smith) Whilst visiting one of the red light districts in Mumbai, India, I came across this little girl who stood out from the crowd. We couldn't take our eyes off each other and I knew something was happening to me. I returned to the hotel but couldn't shake off what I felt. I just kept thinking about her. I returned to England and my wife and I talked about the possibilities of adopting her. We definitely opened the door and went on a journey with it, but during the process the mother of the child decided to keep her. Of course, this was the right thing and the mum is now out of the trade and working a normal job. My heart had been changed, and in some crazy way I feel like I'm her dad, and we are now involved in helping with that project. It's a simple love song, an unlikely love song but very pure. This song is for Fahreen.
"Break The Silence" (Stu G) Wow, we really had to work hard on this song! I think we got to seven chorus re-writes before we finally called Iain Archer for some writing help, but definitely worth the trouble. The guitar riff actually was a Martin keyboard riff, but I nicked that good and proper! Once again the lyric urges us to realise that it's in our hands to make a difference. We met Rabbi Joseph Edelheidt in India, and in conversation he was encouraging us to write songs that cross divides. It's much better if we find what unites us rather than concentrate on what divides us. We have to work together to get the job done!
"Stare The Monster Down" (Stu G) This is angry! What is the monster? For Lucifer it was pride, for Daniel it was lions, for my dad it was cancer, for my daughter it's being afraid of the dark, for one billion people in the world today it's trying to live on less than $1 a day! It's whatever stands in our way and wants to take us down.
"All God's Children" (Martin Smith) We were playing a gig in Mumbai, and during the day we visited a project in one of the red light districts which was looking after 70 kids, giving them food and education. We fell in love with them and asked if they would come out to the concert and dance with us on stage. The moment came to bring them on and it was amazing. More amazing was the fact that they had brought some of their mothers. It was the first time that they were allowed to be mothers and not just labelled for what they do. Whether you're a lawyer, rock star, politician, street kid or prostitute, we are ALL God's children and we are ALL looking for salvation.
"My Soul Sings" (Stu G) The basis of this song came on the first day of writing in 2006 in the warehouse of Furious? Records. The resulting "demo guitars" are the ones you hear on the recording now. . . (with Sam Gibson's help anyway!) We wanted to try and convey that feeling you get when you realise that you are a part of something much bigger than yourself - you know, like a great sunset or standing by Loch Tay in Scotland or at the birth of a baby, etc. The response doesn't just come from your head or heart or your vocal chords, but from your very soul; and that's it really. We're pulled towards the gravity of something far bigger and greater than us - the love at the centre of this incredible universe.

Dernières nouvelles: Voici une image cool de Melody "bébé". Elle était assez impulsive et renversait souvent sa poussette ;o) Johanan aura sa photo "bébé" à son tour. Tous deux, Jo and Melo, sont allés aux studios à Bruxelles pour enregistrer les pistes audios des manuels anglais pour le secondaire. Il parait que c'était "fun" et le travail rémunéré ;o) Ils ont également rencontré John M. Ils auront une journée d'enregistrement dans quelques semaines.
Alexi suit des séances de kiné pour son genou, tout va bien. Nous apporterons une aide au club de basket d'Alexi' demain soir pour le repas annuel. Il y aura un choix de 4 plats au menu : africain, latino, grec et asiatique. Claire prépare le plat asiatique. Nous servirons le plat ensemble. L'année passée il y avait 250 invités.

"Kingdom Of Comfort" (Le Royaume du Confort) (Stu G) Ce chant est plus qu'un chant; nous nous trouvons dans l'expérience décrite par le chant en tant que groupe mais aussi en tant qu'individu. Nous ne pretendons pas posséder toutes les réponses aux grandes questions de la vie telle que "vivre avec les pauvres, les opprimés, les marginaux au pas de notre porte 'mondiale' mais nous luttons avec ces questions . . . par rapport à nos royaumes confortables. Tout a commencé au Brésil en 2006 lors de notre tournée où nous étions confrontés aux communautés vivant à la fois dans la pauvreté extrême et à la fois dans la richesse extrême! J'écoutais Rob Bell de Mars Hill à Michigan, Grand Rapids, qui parlait de Salomon, un homme qui essayait de concilier la sagesse et la richesse afin de pratiquer la justice, mais il devint lui-même oppresseur et oublia d'offrir le secours et la liberté à la nation qui se trouvait en exil. Quel est notre royaume du confort? C'est lorsque nous sommes confortables dans nos situations isolées, nos religions, nos châteaux. Quand nous devenons indifférents aux luttes d'autrui, quand nous nous méfions des autres. Le son est aussi nouveau pour moi dans le chant. J'aime beaucoup ce chant.
"God Is Smiling" (Dieu sourit) (Martin Smith) Cette phrase est apparue spontanément lors de notre chant 'History Maker' (faiseur d'histoire). Je parlais des choses qui font sourire Dieu, mais il y a aussi les choses qui ne le font pas sourire. L'injustice et la pauvreté font partie de ces choses qu'on doit prendre au sérieux si nous nous appelons chrétiens. Nous nous sommes donnés les mains lors de ce morçeau spontané, Dieu se trouvait au milieu de nous alors que nous chantions "Dieu sourit sur nous ce soir", l'ambiance était électrique, le chant est devenu ce qu'il est aujourd'hui.
"Give What You've Got" (Donnez ce que vous possédez) (Stu G) Le chant en question a commencé de façon sobre mais vers la fin on "rockait" un max! Martin s'imaginait assis avec ses fils, leur donnant les conseils sur la vie: "Quoique vous fassiez, faites-le au max!" La ligne préférée dans le chant est "J'ai fais des erreurs mais la grâce est si bonne". Nous pouvons tous nous associer à ça je suppose. J'ai beaucoup aimé travailler les tonalités de guitare avec notre très bon ami Lynn Nichols - Nous avons poussé l'ampli Marshall des années '70s à fond!
"Love Will Find A Way" (l'amour trouvera un moyen) (Martin Smith) Un chant de paradoxe. Un moment donné nous voici en train de nourrir des gosses qui vivent sur un tas d'imondices et dans les minutes qui suivent nous nous trouvons dans notre hôtel cinq étoiles parce que c'était le seul endroit prévu pour nous. Le chant reflète le monologue intérieur de quelqu'un qui se demande comment il peut s'engager dans le monde pour changer la vie de ceux qui souffrent. Les paroles que je préfère se trouvent au milieu.
"Eagle Rider" (Monter les aigles) (Martin Smith) Inspiré par le film zélandais, Whale Rider, la phrase "Eagle Rider" est restée. La phrase décrit l'histoire du vol dans le vent et dans les hauteurs, presque aussi haut que dans le paradis. Un chant qui parle du changement, du repositionnement, de la liberté. Un chant à propos de la redécouverte, du risque, de l'aventure. Une expérience inédite! Quelque chose de nouveau pour nous!

Nous blâmons aussi le diable pour beaucoup de nos problèmes mais la plupart de nos problèmes viennent de nous, notre vieil homme. Le miracle est que nous avons été sauvé de nous-mêmes.
How Sweet The Name" (comme ton nom est doux) (Martin Smith) Le chant ressemble un hymne, un chant d'amour tout simple, le son, le nom, je suis touché chaque jour. La fin musicale apporte une sérénité. La vie est simple, mais aussi compliquée. "De tous les chants que nous avons chantés, il n'y a rien de plus beau que Toi". Voilà tout.
"Wonder" (Emerveillement) (Martin Smith) Lors de notre visite dans un quartier de prostitution à Mumbai en Inde, j'ai rencontré cette petite fille qui ressortait de la foule. je ne pouvais pas m'empêcher de la regarder. Je me rendi compte que quelque chose se passait en moi. Je retournais à l'hôtel mais je ne pouvais oublier cette fillette. A notre retour en Angleterre, ma femme et moi avons pensé à la possibilité de l'adopter. Nous avons sérieusement réfléchi à cette possibilité mais quelque temps après la maman de la fillette décida de la garder. Bien sûr c'est la meilleure solution, car la maman n'est plus dans la prostitution et a réussi à trouver un travail normal. Mon coeur fut changé par cette expérience et d'une certaine façon je me sens comme un papa vis à vis d'elle. Nous sommmes actuellement impliqués dans le projet d'aide envers elle. C'est comme un chant d'amour, très pur, ce chant est pour Fahreen.
"Break The Silence" (briser le silence) (Stu G) Woaow, nous avons du bosser très durement sur ce chant! Nous avons réécrit le refrain sept fois avant de faire appel Iain Archer pour nous donner un coup de main mais ça valait la peine. Le "riff" sur la guitare était au départ une mélodie jouée par Martin sur le clavier mais je l'ai repris pour la guitare. Les paroles nous poussent à réaliser que nous pouvons faire une différence dans le monde. Nous avons rencontré Rabbi Joseph Edelheidt en Inde et lors de nos conversations, il nous a encouragé à écrire des chants qui traversent les barrières. C'est mieux de trouver ce qui nous uni plutôt que ce qui nous divise. Nous devons travailler ensemble pour terminer le travail.

POur Lucifer il s'agissait de son orgueil, pour Daniel son monstre était les lions, pour mon père c'était le cancer, pour ma fille c'est la peur du noir, pour un milliard de gens dans le monde aujourd'hui c'est la lutte de survivre avec moins que $1 par jour (moins qu'un euro)! Ce qui va nous descendre est ce qui nous empêche d'avancer.
"All God's Children" (tous les enfants de Dieu) (Martin Smith) Ayant joué un concert à Mumbai, nous avons visité un projet dans un quartier de prostitution qui s'occupait de 70 gosses, leur offrant de la nourritur et de l'éducation. Nous sommes tombés amoureux de ces gosses et nous les avons invité au concert, ils sont montés sur l'estrade avec nous et ont dansé avec nous. Quand le moment est venu pour qu'ils partent c'était un moment incroyable. Leur maman sont venues avec eux et pour une fois elles pouvaient être des mamans et prendre soin de leurs gosses au lieu de porter l'étiquette "prostituée". Que vous soyez une star, un homme politique, une prostituée ou un enfant à la rue, nous sommes tous les enfants de Dieu et nous cherchons tous le salut.

L'injustice et la pauvreté font partie de ces choses qu'on doit prendre au sérieux si nous nous appelons chrétiens. Nous nous sommes donnés les mains lors de ce morçeau spontané, Dieu se trouvait au milieu de nous alors que nous chantions "Dieu sourit sur nous ce soir", l'ambiance était électrique, le chant est devenu ce qu'il est aujourd'hui.
"Give What You've Got" (Donnez ce que vous possédez) (Stu G) Le chant en question a commencé de façon sobre mais vers la fin on "rockait" un max! Martin s'imaginait assis avec ses fils, leur donnant les conseils sur la vie: "Quoique vous fassiez, faites-le au max!" La ligne préférée dans le chant est "J'ai fais des erreurs mais la grâce est si bonne". Nous pouvons tous nous associer à ça je suppose. J'ai beaucoup aimé travailler les tonalités de guitare avec notre très bon ami Lynn Nichols - Nous avons poussé l'ampli Marshall des années '70s à fond!
"Love Will Find A Way" (l'amour trouvera un moyen) (Martin Smith) Un chant de paradoxe. Un moment donné nous voici en train de nourrir des gosses qui vivent sur un tas d'imondices et dans les minutes qui suivent nous nous trouvons dans notre hôtel cinq étoiles parce que c'était le seul endroit prévu pour nous. Le chant reflète le monologue intérieur de quelqu'un qui se demande comment il peut s'engager dans le monde pour changer la vie de ceux qui souffrent. Les paroles que je préfère se trouvent au milieu.
"Eagle Rider" (Monter les aigles) (Martin Smith) Inspiré par le film zélandais, Whale Rider, la phrase "Eagle Rider" est restée. La phrase décrit l'histoire du vol dans le vent et dans les hauteurs, presque aussi haut que dans le paradis. Un chant qui parle du changement, du repositionnement, de la liberté. Un chant à propos de la redécouverte, du risque, de l'aventure. Une expérience inédite! Quelque chose de nouveau pour nous!
"We Give You Praise" (nous t'offrons la louange) (Martin Smith) Un bon ami à nous, Marty Sampson de Sydney, nous a envoyé la première ligne du refrain. Les versets ne m'ont pas saisi tout de suite mais le refrain, certainement. Nous avons dévéloppé l'idée de notre cheminement sur la route de la vie sans baisser les bras. Nous blâmons aussi le diable pour beaucoup de nos problèmes mais la plupart de nos problèmes viennent de nous, notre vieil homme. Le miracle est que nous avons été sauvé de nous-mêmes.
How Sweet The Name" (comme ton nom est doux) (Martin Smith) Le chant ressemble un hymne, un chant d'amour tout simple, le son, le nom, je suis touché chaque jour. La fin musicale apporte une sérénité. La vie est simple, mais aussi compliquée. "De tous les chants que nous avons chantés, il n'y a rien de plus beau que Toi". Voilà tout.
"Wonder" (Emerveillement) (Martin Smith) Lors de notre visite dans un quartier de prostitution à Mumbai en Inde, j'ai rencontré cette petite fille qui ressortait de la foule. je ne pouvais pas m'empêcher de la regarder. Je me rendi compte que quelque chose se passait en moi. Je retournais à l'hôtel mais je ne pouvais oublier cette fillette. A notre retour en Angleterre, ma femme et moi avons pensé à la possibilité de l'adopter. Nous avons sérieusement réfléchi à cette possibilité mais quelque temps après la maman de la fillette décida de la garder. Bien sûr c'est la meilleure solution, car la maman n'est plus dans la prostitution et a réussi à trouver un travail normal. Mon coeur fut changé par cette expérience et d'une certaine façon je me sens comme un papa vis à vis d'elle. Nous sommmes actuellement impliqués dans le projet d'aide envers elle. C'est comme un chant d'amour, très pur, ce chant est pour Fahreen.
"Break The Silence" (briser le silence) (Stu G) Woaow, nous avons du bosser très durement sur ce chant! Nous avons réécrit le refrain sept fois avant de faire appel Iain Archer pour nous donner un coup de main mais ça valait la peine. Le "riff" sur la guitare était au départ une mélodie jouée par Martin sur le clavier mais je l'ai repris pour la guitare. Les paroles nous poussent à réaliser que nous pouvons faire une différence dans le monde. Nous avons rencontré Rabbi Joseph Edelheidt en Inde et lors de nos conversations, il nous a encouragé à écrire des chants qui traversent les barrières. C'est mieux de trouver ce qui nous uni plutôt que ce qui nous divise. Nous devons travailler ensemble pour terminer le travail.
"Stare The Monster Down" (Oser regarder le monstre 'le diable' en face) (Stu G) Ce chant est plein de colère contre satan, le monstre! POur Lucifer il s'agissait de son orgueil, pour Daniel son monstre était les lions, pour mon père c'était le cancer, pour ma fille c'est la peur du noir, pour un milliard de gens dans le monde aujourd'hui c'est la lutte de survivre avec moins que $1 par jour (moins qu'un euro)! Ce qui va nous descendre est ce qui nous empêche d'avancer.
"All God's Children" (tous les enfants de Dieu) (Martin Smith) Ayant joué un concert à Mumbai, nous avons visité un projet dans un quartier de prostitution qui s'occupait de 70 gosses, leur offrant de la nourritur et de l'éducation. Nous sommes tombés amoureux de ces gosses et nous les avons invité au concert, ils sont montés sur l'estrade avec nous et ont dansé avec nous. Quand le moment est venu pour qu'ils partent c'était un moment incroyable. Leur maman sont venues avec eux et pour une fois elles pouvaient être des mamans et prendre soin de leurs gosses au lieu de porter l'étiquette "prostituée". Que vous soyez une star, un homme politique, une prostituée ou un enfant à la rue, nous sommes tous les enfants de Dieu et nous cherchons tous le salut.
"My Soul Sings" (mon âme chante) (Stu G) La base de ce chant est venue le premier jour en 2006 dans l'entrepôt de "Furious? Records". Les guitares que vous entendez sont les guitares "démos" que nous avons enrégistrés le premier jour avec l'aide de Sam Gibson! Nous avons voulu communiquer le sentiment incroyable de faire partie de quelque chose de bien plus grand que nous-mêmes - que cela soit un coucher de soleil ou à Loch Tay en Ecosse ou être présent à la naissance de votre enfant, etc. La réponse ne vient pas du coeur ou de la tête ou de nos cordes vocales, mais de notre âme; voilà la réalité. Nous sommes tirés vers la pesanteur de quelque chose de plus grand que nous tous - vers l'amour au centre de l'univers.
